Parking Lot Signage and Window Vinyl for Meals on Wheels
We recently finished up installing new parking lot signage and window vinyl for Meals on Wheels – Sacramento County. It is always a plus to do work for a business that has a mission to provide for it’s community at the level Meals on Wheels does. To support their mission even more, Meals on Wheels recently rebranded with updated colors and a new logo. In doing so they needed to update and enhance their location in the Pocket area of Sacramento. Calico Creative’s relationship with ACC Senior Services provided us with the opportunity to advise on, design and install the new signage and window vinyl. The parking lot signage is a direct print on Aluminum Composite Material and the vinyl is printed on 3M’s IJ35. We are very happy with how it turned out. As with all installs, the process was unique and challenging.
The first step was to visit the location and provide a site survey. Doing a visual inspection of the site allows us to get accurate measurements, photos to use in mockups, a first hand look at any and all challenges and most importantly to spend time with the client to hear what they need done. This is also the time to see if a project is going to require any permits from the city or county prior to the installation.
The biggest challenge with the windows was that the previous occupants of the building put ‘No Smoking’ signs on the windows. They also used an incredibly strong adhesive when applying them. Using a 50lb test fishing line, we were able to slowly and carefully remove the sign from the adhesive without damaging the tinted glass. Once the signs were removed, with a lot of Windex, plastic scrapers and elbow grease the overly aggressive adhesive was removed leaving the blank slate we needed to apply the new window vinyl. As you can see in the images below the vinyl applied perfectly and adds a whole new look to the entrance to the building.
The challenge with the parking lot signage was that we were installing the new signs on existing hardware that had weathered and rusted. As you can see in the images above, the top post and the sides post were quite rusty. The biggest issue with the rust was that it could drip onto the new signage and we did not want that to happen. With the help of our trusted wire brush we cleaned off all the rust and primed and painted all the posts. In doing this we did two things; we brought the posts back to looking like brand new, and we guaranteed that no rust would run onto the new signage. As you’ll see down below in the finished project images, the posts look as new as the signage.
